This is me, Baard /bɔːd/
PhotoByBaard /ˈfəʊtəʊ baɪ bɔːd/
The other day I came across a self portrait taken in 1991 (or a selfie as we would call it today). It was an image of me sitting in a chair in my student apartment nipping to a single malt. Behind me on the shelf I could se a record player (vinyl), a bottle of single malt, a zoom lens, and my camera. Looking at the photo it hit me that not much have changed except for the wrinkles. In younger years I was eager with the camera, and with access to a darkroom, I spent a lot of time dodging and burning, chasing the right look. But after a couple of years family life and career set my image hunt on pause, until 2013 when I went crazy and bought a Fujifilm x100s. The small retro camera took me by surprise, what a picture quality. It was a revelation, and set me on track to make photos again.
“ you don’t take a photo, you make a photo”
This was something I was told by a photographer I met at a convention some time ago. And he was so right. Another thing I have learned is that gear is not the most important to make great photos. Patience is, therefor a red tin mug with coffee is my most important tool. My weak spot as a photographer is that I am to busy. I need to slow down, I need to take in the scene. I need to be patience,
